Three robbers jump to death from train

Passenger resists the robbers after they snatch a handbag, sensing trouble they jump out

Three robbers, who snatched a handbag thinking it contained money from a Railway passenger, jumped from the running train and were crushed to death on the Pendurthi-Chintalagraharam railway line in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to Railway SP M. Kantha Rao, the accused K.V. Dayaram of Maharashtra, P.K. Mohanty of Orissa and another unidentified robber, snatched a handbag from a passenger Shantilal Jain.

Talking to the media here on Sunday, he said the passenger, travelling in the Howrah-Hyderabad express train, resisted the robbers and in the melee he was slightly injured. Several passengers began screaming and shouted for help.

Meanwhile, the robbers sensing trouble jumped from the running train and were crushed to death. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Shantilal Jain had lodged a complaint with the Railway Police and got himself admitted in the King George Hospital for treatment of minor injuries on his nose and legs.

The Railway police recovered the stolen handbag at the place where the mutilated bodies lay scattered.
