Three workers died of suffocation when they entered into a newly constructed overhead tank at Pothavaram village under Koyyuru Police Station limits in the agency area of the district on Tuesday. S. Lakshman (20) entered into the tank to clean the cement and dust and died due to suffocation. When Lakshman did not come out for a long time, D. Gopal (23) and P. Chanti (30) also entered the tank to save him but they also suffocated to death. The incident came to light when other workers noticed that their co-workers were missing.

The bodies were taken out of the tank and sent to a hospital at Narsipatnam for post-mortem, according to Koyyuru CI Venkata Rao.
