Three arrested, 80 kg ganja seized

Three persons, including two inter-State ganja smugglers from Tamil Nadu, were arrested by the Rolugunta police near Ratnampeta village in the district on Sunday morning.

The arrested were identified as Madhu Papanna (56) and Vellu R Mukam (30), both native of Vellore district, and V. Ganesh of Ratnampeta village.

The accused were arrested when they tried to transport about 80 kg dry ganja in a car. The value of the seized contraband is estimated to be Rs.4 lakh.

According to the police, the smugglers procured ganja from various parts of the Visakha Agency area, packed it in gunnysacks, and tried to smuggle it in a car bearing Tamil Nadu registration.

On a tip-off, Rolugunta SI Krishna Rao and his team intercepted the vehicle near Ratnampeta village and seized the stuff, and arrested the accused. Investigation is on.
