Describing it as innovative and invaluable, Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu and GITAM University Vice-Chancellor G. Subrahmanyam launched the standalone School Edition of The Hindu here on Sunday.
Describing the school edition as one more effort to usher in a knowledge society, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said The Hindu stood for reliability. It was an invaluable necklace in the crown of India, he said.
Citing his own experience in preparing for competitive examinations, he said the newspaper was the Bible for competitive examinations. Any other book prepared, generally contained information from it, he felt. By bringing out the edition, a powerful weapon encompassing education and information was being given to shape children into unparalleled human resource in the development of the country, he felt.
The Hindu pioneered once again by bringing exclusive, quality and reliable news and future generations would derive full benefit of it, Prof. Subrahmanyam said.
Learning through the paper would become part of their life for students and they need not worry about competitive examinations, he said. “When you move on to Plus Two, college and university, the quality of inputs at every level will help you,” he said. He hoped that The Hindu would be innovative in many more ways to cater to other sections of society.
Prof. Subrahmanyam told the children that for 50 years now, he had been beginning the day with The Hindu and recalled its encouragement to the surveys he made in Andhra University in 1980s.
The eight-page School Edition is designed for pupils in classes 8-10 and will published from Monday to Saturday. It is priced Re.1. Visakhapatnam is one of the nine cities where the edition was launched. Enthusiastic children who participated in the launch thumbed through it going through the wide variety of news it presented.
