Children of Hyderabad-based orphanage Manchikalalu perform the skit with child labour as its theme
‘The Great Robbery', a skit with its theme based on child labour, performed by 26 students of an orphanage —Manchikalalu — at the Port Kalavani auditorium here on Sunday enthralled the audience.
The plight of streetchildren, who long to study in school but cannot either due to broken family or lack of money, was well depicted.
The performance also conveyed a message where society on the whole should not steal the happiness of children in the form of child labour.
A group dance was also performed and a short-film to encourage education among children was screened.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF) organised the playlet. The chief guest was GVMC Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu.
Manchikalalu is a home that provides food, shelter, and education for 36 underprivileged children in Hyderabad.
In order to provide a platform to exhibit the talent of these kchildren, the AOF has been working to support the students through a project called Sunrise, which involves partnering with orphanages and supporting them in their education, health, and nutrition. An entry fee of Rs.200 was collected and all the proceeds would reach the orphanage in the form of various amenities. The AOF and its distributors donated a cheque for Rs.1.26 lakh towards the annual education of the inmates of Manchikalalu, said area manager of Amway India Amit Pratap Jadhav.
