A bunch of acrylic mirror sheets arranged in an aluminium frame turns into a cooking stove. No flames are seen under the vessel placed on this solar oven. However, it helps in dishing out rice, dal, curry and other items like any normal gas stove.

A model -- ‘Cooking with sun’ -- is among the 346 projects put on display at the State-level Inspire Manak Award Scheme exhibition featured by the Department of School Education at Kotak Salesian School here.

Renewable energy

The best of the exhibits at the district-level fair made their way to the State-level fair. Most of the models, put up by the students who arrived from 13 districts of the State, focused on optimum utilisation of resources, extensive use of renewable energy and cost-effective measures that reduce the duplication of work.

Keeping the space constraint in view, M. Jagadish, a Class X student of ZPHS, Regidi Amadalavalasa, came up with the mobile toilet concept as a part of the ‘Green village-clean village-my dream village’ project. “The recycled water is used for cleaning purpose and simple mechanism is incorporated to keep his village green,” he said.

In another corner of the classroom, K. Santosh Kumar, a Class VIII student of MPUP School, explained the benefits of a pair of rubber footwear that can be worn while carrying out electric pole repair works through a video. He said the safety chappals designed for climbing electric pole would bring down the incidents of electrocution.

A number of thoughtful exhibits such as cost-effective incubator, digital home security system, benefits of drones, automatic garbage collection, and bricks from eco-friendly mining form a part of the exhibition which concludes on Friday.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who formally inaugurated the fair on Thursday, said that 15% of the State budget was allocated to the education sector. “Students with innovative ideas will be encouraged to showcase their talent at the global platform,” he stated. District Education Officer. B. Lingeswara Reddy said the top models would be selected for the national-level fair.
