With rumours making the rounds that action teams of the banned CPI (Maoist) are moving around and the police resorting to vehicle check on many roads even as Central armed police forces are conducting combing operations in the interior areas, a tense situation is prevailing in Visakha Agency.
Odisha police are reported to have picked up a member of Korukonda area committee Parimiti Satyavathi alias Bhagya from the Seekupanasa forest area in Malkangiri district, on the other side of the border on Monday, when she was reportedly preparing to return to her group after undergoing treatment.
An RMP Vandalam Bangarayy from the same village was also picked up for reportedly treating her.
This has increased tension in the area. Bhagya is an important ACM of Korukonda committee having been in the movement for the last 10 years. She left the dalam three months ago to get treated for an ailment.
A few days ago, Visakhapatnam Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas and some other top district police officials conducted a Sadbhavana Yatra in remote villages from which a few underground cadre of the Maoist party hailed.
They tried to impress upon family members, friends and villagers the benefits of their sons returning to the mainstream on their own.
After the Sadbhavana Yatra came the rumours of the Maoist action teams moving around in some areas for the last three days.
Three teams of police are conducting searches at G.K. Veedhi, four each at Chintapalli, G. Madugula and Paderu, two at Sileru and one at Annavaram.
The teams consisted of personnel of AP police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Meanwhile three companies of CRPF and BSF are reportedly conducting searches in the interior areas.
