Some unidentified persons dug up the temple of Lord Siva at Dukkavanipalem of Gambheeram panchayat under Tagarapuvalasa police station limits in the city allegedly in search of hidden treasure.

The miscreants removed the idol and dug up to a depth of around 4 feet. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when some locals found the idol of Lord Siva was damaged.

It may be recalled that one of the statues in the temple was found missing around a month ago.

Anandapuram Inspector K. Kumara Swami said that a case was registered.
