That which tells about importance of human relations turns out to be a good story in any realm of letters, observed noted writer Gollapudi Maruthi Rao here on Sunday.
The occasion was a meet held under the aegis of Visakha Rasagna Vedika at Visakha Public Library during which he shared his experiences in the production of his popular talk show ‘Vandella Kathaku Vandanalu' on HMTV. Telugu modern short story was a by-product of Western influence particularly that of English literature in the early part of previous century, he averred.
“Though born out of abiding influence of Western literature, Telugu story evolved into a distinct entity in its own right over a century”, he said. In its vast canvas that encompass the whole gamut of human life in all its diversity, Telugu story telling stood out on several counts such as its technique, craft, realistic depiction and above all its uncanny touch of poignancy that strikes a response chord in sensible hearts, Mr. Maruthi Rao explained.
Every part of the State has its fair share of great writers to its credit.
It was no less than Herculean task to choose just 100 and plus stories for the talk show from among umpteen number of great writers and their abiding works that left an indelible mark on the minds of people, he said about his programme. Though it amounts to a small measure of service to the great cause of Telugu story, it remains a classic in its own right for its authentic presentation, he observed. It made him learn many a thing in the process, he added.
Mr. Gollapudi honoured renowned Telugu writer Kalipatnam Rama Rao.
