“Mathematics is easy,” is the message of Prof. Madanlal B. Ghai to teachers at primary and middle level and parents.

“When told repeatedly that it is hard to crack, students carry that impression. If we tell them it is easy they carry that impression expressing the view that it is extremely important to use the right language about mathematics,” who is here on his third all-India tour says. Major Ghai, after his retirement from the Army in which he was in the Education Corps, had taken to teaching and retired as Head of the Department of Mathematics of PMN College, Rajpura.

Fit as fiddle, the 70-year-old Prof. Ghai is now working on his Ph.D. in Punjabi University, Patiala. The Prime Minister commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan declared 2012 as the National Year of Mathematics and December 22 as National Mathematics Day.
