A 10th class student of ZP High School at Gajuwaka was hospitalised after being beaten up allegedly by his teacher on Monday for failing to wear the uniform. The teacher allegedly beat up the boy's mother also when she went to question him.

V. Jogi Kumar went to school wearing a formal dress and, instead of going to his class, he sat in a separate room along with a few other friends. Physical Education Trainer (PET) U. Pydaiah directed the boys to go to their classroom. Kumar reportedly refused to go to his class as he was not wearing the uniform.

Infuriated with his reply, the PET allegedly picked up a stick and hit him with it. Kumar went home crying and told his mother Lakshmi of the incident. Lakshmi went to the school along with her son and demanded dismissal of the PET. Pydaiah allegedly beat up the student again and kicked his mother too on her stomach. Kumar lost his cool and hurled a stone at his teacher, injuring him on the nose.

Hospitalised

Kumar and his mother were admitted to a private hospital while the teacher was admitted to another hospital at Gajuwaka.

The Gajuwaka police said a case had been registered against the teacher for beating the boy and also kicking his mother. Another case had been registered against Kumar for hurling a stone at his teacher and against Ms. Lakshmi for allegedly grabbing the teacher by his collar.

“I have deputed the Deputy Education Officer to inquire into the incident. Based on the report, action will be initiated against the accused,” District Education Officer A. Sai Babu said.

Meanwhile, president of AP Balala Hakkula Sangham Achyuta Rao condemned the attitude of the drill master towards the student and his mother. In a statement released from Hyderabad, he advised teachers to treat students with love and affection.
