Visakhapatnam MLA (South) Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar being taken into preventive custody in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

: Telugu Desam Party urban unit president and Visakhapatnam (South) MLA Vasupalli Ganesh and YSRC Party leader Kola Guruvulu were taken into preventive custody to avoid a clash between the two political parties here on Monday evening.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Naveen Gulati, both the leaders were taken into preventive custody for a brief period and released later.

The incident took place when Vasupalli Ganesh and his supporters had gone to Jagadamba Junction at around 5 p.m. to burn the effigy of YSRC leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, to protest against the campaign unleashed by the opposition party against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu through its regular programme ‘Gadapa- Gadapa.’

Sensing the move, YSRC party workers led by Kola Guruvulu reached Jagadamba Junction at about 4.30 p.m. and burnt the effigy of the CM.

This led to a verbal duel between both the leaders and party workers. And before things could get out of control, both the leaders and a few party workers from both the sides were taken into custody.

According to the police, both the political parties had planned the programme without taking permission from the police.
