Telugu Desam Party MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with his alleged involvement with the liquor syndicate.

He has been asked to appear before ACB DSP here on June 21, an ACB official said. The MLA from Visakhapatnam East allegedly travelled to Hyderabad with K.V.R. Prasad of Janapriya Syndicate and Pushkara Ganesh of Ganesh Syndicate with their expenses. Documents and registers seized by ACB in February revealed that the MLA travelled with the duo to Hyderabad. Some documents also allegedly stated that they had paid ‘mamools' to former Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, who is now in judicial custody, over grant of concessions to VANPIC.

When contacted, the MLA denied the allegation against him that he flew to Hyderabad along with Mr. Prasad and Mr. Ganesh to hand over a ‘mamool' of Rs.25 lakh to the Minister for allowing to sell liquor above MRP. He also expressed his shock over serving of notice by ACB on him and said they should have issued summons after seeking clarification from him.

He said Mr. Prasad and Mr. Ganesh were his friends even before he joined active politics and it was a common practice on the part of one of them to share the flight expenses. He, however, said though ticket was booked for all three of them, he did not take the boarding pass that day.
