TDP Govt. will not take up bauxite mining, says MLA

July 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:07 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Telugu Desam government would not take up bauxite mining, MLA of Araku Valley Kidari Sarveswara Rao said here on Tuesday and charged some parties with speaking about bauxite mining which was not an issue at all.

“These parties which have lost their existence among people are raising this issue. The present government has cancelled all the GOs regarding bauxite mining issued by the previous government. I think there is no problem as far as bauxite mining [which is being strongly opposed by the Girijans and environmentalists],” Mr. Sarveswara Rao said at a press conference.

He said the YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was targeting SC and ST MLAs who had left the party and joined the Telugu Desam to ensure that their constituencies would prosper due to the welfare and development programmes of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

If Mr. Jagan continues to do so his party would not win even a single seat in the 2019 elections, Mr. Sarveswara Rao said.

The MLA, who switched over from YSRC to the TDP, rebutted criticism launched by YSRC in a section of the press that he was neck-deep in corruption after joining the TDP.

YSRC chief Jaganmohan Reddy was involved in smuggling of ganja, red sanders and heroin and earned lakhs of crores of rupees, he alleged.
