‘TDP govt. violating SC ruling on Aadhaar link’

The Telugu Desam Party government has violated the Supreme Court order that Aadhaar link should not be made mandatory with regard to welfare programmes extended by a government, president of APCC N. Raghuveera Reddy said here on Monday.

"The government is threatening the poor people by saying that they will not get benefit if Aadhaar seeding is not done, though Aadhaar is not necessary for the purpose," Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said at a press conference after conducting a meeting of office-bearers in-charge of party’s units in the districts from Srikakulam to West Godavari, former Ministers, former MLAs, APCC members and other party leaders.

The APCC president demanded the TDP government, during the Janmabhoomi programme commencing on October 2, should continue the welfare programmes started by the Congress government and take steps to implement the many promises it made in its election manifesto.

Regarding party’s organisational matters the APCC president said the city, district and mandal level committees should be formed by October end. The first phase must be over by October 10 and the second phase by the month-end and this schedule should be followed. Since Congress is a national party, the details of the committees have to be sent to AICC for approval, he said.

Former PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana said the Janmabhoomi programme would be an ‘attack’ on the poorer sections since the TDP government would be taking steps to remove all the benefits to the poor, like the rice per Re. 1, pensions, scholarships, etc. TDP leaders would grab all the benefits meant for the poor, he said.

He wanted the elected members of the local bodies to be involved in conducting Janmabhoomi and not the Nodal Officers. If this was not done it would violate the Articles 73 and 74 of the Constitution, he said.

Rajya Sabha Member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, former Ministers P. Balaraju, Kanna Lakshmanarayana and Kondru Murali, former Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas and several party leaders were present.
