Nearly 200 TDP activists were arrested during a protest of laying siege to the Collectorate on Monday demanding that the income limits for scholarships to BC/EBC/SC/ST students be raised.

TDP workers led by Urban president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar tried to enter the collectorate leading to jostling with the police who tried to restrain them. Agitating TDP activists who came from all over the city tried to jump the gates.

Among the arrested activists were Ganesh Kumar, Gudivada Amarnath, Appala Narsimha Raju, P. Venkata Ramana Reddy and Potanna Reddy.

Earlier, Mr. Ganesh Kumar assailed the government for continuing the limit for BC/EBC/minority students at a mere Rs.1 lakh fixed in 2008 and demanded that it should be increased to 2.5 lakh. For SC/ST students too the limit should be increased to Rs. 3 lakh, he said.

Pasarla Prasad, Lodagala Krishna, Chakravarthi, P. Raja Rao, Veeralakshmi and Varalakshmi participated. As a part of its agitation, the TDP went on a three-day relay fast at GVMC to press for the demand on the income limit.
