TDP (Urban) president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar on Thursday performed “Porludandalu” (worship rolling on the road) in support of Samaikyandhra.

Clad in jeans and white shirt, he started his rolling with folded hands on the road from the relay fast camp at GVMC and continued it for a few metres. Party leaders, including Visakhapatnam East MLA V. Ramakrishbabu, enthusiastically encouraged him by clapping. Later he was lifted on to their shoulders by party men and brought back to the camp.

The fast was launched by TDP to press for united State. Former corporator E. Mariadas and others participated.

Mr. Ramakrishnababu later went to the Congress relay fast camp where members from minority community were on protest and greeted them.

At the Ambedkar statue, TDP cadres with masks of Seemandhra Ministers performed a ‘Sonia bhajan’.

Teachers JAC, on relay fast at GVMC, organised a human chain.

Security for match

The ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation had its effect on the three-day match between New Zealand A and India A at Port stadium as heavy security was mounted at the venue.

Providing pilot police vehicles to the foreign and Indian team’s coaches during a sports event in the city is not new but a warning from a joint action committee of the agitation made the police to deploy nearly 200 personnel at the Port stadium. They include the State civil police, Greyhounds and the CISF.

The top tier of the pavilion of the stadium was nearly packed with policemen and there were just a few dozens of spectators. Stoppers were placed from the main gate to the Port outdoor stadium where the match is being played. A metal detector is also installed.

However none of the agitators made their appearance near the venue.
