Water flooded parts of Kakaninagar, Vimananagar, and Kanakamahalakshmi Colony on Tuesday evening following breach to a tank. The tank is located close to the railway track, it is learnt.
Unconfirmed reports said the breach was caused by some railway track work.
Water is flowing through the streets into a major storm-water drain (gedda) nearby. MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu (Ganababu) rushed to the area after coming to know of the flooding of the streets.
GVMC Chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy said some obstruction was caused to the water gushing out of the breached tank, leading to the flooding of the colonies. By late evening, water receded, he added.
“The drains towards a Railway Bridge have been choked,” zone commissioner Sanyasi Naidu said. He rushed to the spot with an earth moving machine.
He said water did not enter houses. Using an earth moving machine, water was being cleared, he added.
The three colonies are to the left of the National Highway between the airport and NAD. Sources said initially water may have entered a few houses, but later receded.
