April 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Stating that the GVMC is seized of issues like lack of public or community toilets that is resulting in open defecation, absence of a holistic solid waste management plan, and inability to treat all the sewage, Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar has assured representatives of residents’ welfare associations of a tangible improvement in sanitation and solid waste management in six months.

A gap analysis was being done and it was estimated that by 2021, an investment of Rs.30,000 crore was required to ensure quality power and water supply round the clock, sewage treatment etc.

The government would sign an MoU with the U. S. for a detailed planning, he said at an interactive session with RWAs organised by the Vizagpatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Smart Visakha Forum on Wednesday.

Mr. Pravin Kumar assured that access to the physically challenged would be improved beginning with his office. He sought total cooperation from resident welfare associations in bringing about improvement in civic issues.

Replying to security concerns and traffic snarls, Police Commissioner Amit Garg said that GPS would be installed to track patrol vehicles integrating with ‘100’ service. Vehicle actualisation cameras with sensors to detect traffic density and help in diversion would be introduced. Surveillance cameras would be installed at 94 junctions. President of Kirlampudi RWA D.V.V.S. Somayajulu moderated.
