Takes over as Chancellor of GITAM varsity

It is for the first time a deemed university has a person other than its founder as its Chancellor, according to a GITAM University press release.

Noted educationist and philosopher Koneru Ramakrishna Rao took over as Chancellor of GITAM University here on Thursday.

Founder-president of GITAM University M.V.V.S. Murthi decided to appoint Prof. Ramakrishna Rao in his place as Chancellor of the university.

It is for the first time a deemed university has a person other than its founder as its Chancellor, according to a GITAM University press release.

Prof. Ramakrishna Rao, who received Padma Shri award last year, is Chairman of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research.

A former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, he also held the posts of Advisor to the State Government on Higher Education, Chairman of AP State Commissionerate of Higher Education, and Vice-Chairman of the AP State Planning Board. He also chaired many State and National-level committees on higher education, governance of universities, rural university, professional studies institute, and reforms in school education. He has 200 research papers to his credit and had authored 12 books. Dr. Murthi hoped the university would reach new heights under the guidance of Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao.

Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam , Pro Vice-Chancellor D. Harinarayana, Registrar M. Potharaju, and members of the university’s governing body participated in the programme.
