At 53, the man continues to define fitness with an enviably chiselled body. So when supermodel-turned-actor and Pinkathon ambassador Milind Soman interacted with a large gathering of women at Concentrix on Thursday, it was no surprise that his persuasive persona inspired many of them to make an attempt at doing push-ups and pledging to start a healthy lifestyle.

Mr. Soman was in the city ahead of the third edition of the ‘Vizag Going Pink’ to be held on January 7. Exhorting women to take charge of their health, he said they should not feel guilty of taking time away from their family responsibilities.

Mr. Soman was accompanied by his 78-year-old mother Usha Soman, also a fitness enthusiast. The former professor of biochemistry defied age by doing push-ups, competing with a youngster, amidst loud cheer from the audience. Speaking about his mother, Mr. Soman said: “We inspire each other.” She was in the news for completing a 100km walk in 41 hours for the Oxfam Trailwalk event and a video of hers planking for more than a minute in a sari that went viral.

Entrepreneur and professional skater Rana Uppalapati said close to 3,000 women were expected to take part in this year’s edition of ‘Vizag Going Pink’.

The event is being organised by Arena Events and United Sisters Foundation. Participants can enrol for the run which will be held in three categories — 3 km, 5 km and 10 km — at the Beach Road. Online registrations can be done at www.indiagoingpink.com . Offline registrations can be done at Tanishq showroom, VIP Road, and bibs can be collected at the same venue on Jan. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
