The district administration has been directed to set up a nodal agency to deal with the spread of swine flu.

Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju reviewed the subject with officials of the district administration, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, district medical and health department, KGH, and TB and Chest Disease Hospital.

He directed them to work in tandem and ensure that there were enough facilities for treating patients in the district.

He directed the officials to ensure that all the area hospitals at Aganampudi, Anakapalli, Narsipatnam and Paderu had adequate stock of medicines to treat the infectious disease.

The Minister wanted 20 beds in Chest Hospital and eight beds in KGH to be dedicated to treating patients suffering from swine flu. He asked the Collector to issue a direction to private hospitals to report any patient showing symptoms of swine flu.

District Collector V Seshadri assured the Minister that there was adequate stock of medicines in all the primary health centres. Commissioner GVMC M V Satyanarayana, KGH Superintendent M Madhusudhanbabu, District Medical and Health Officer G Savitri, Superintendent of Chest Hospital Subba Rao, DCH Nayak, Principal Andhra Medical College Kalpana Subrahmanyam, Chief Medical Officer of GVMC and other officials participated in the meeting.
