The banned CPI (Maoist) has lost the sympathy and support of the people of tribes of the Agency area, DSP, Chintapalli, R Raghavendra has said.

The recent incidents in the Agency area, where the tribals turned against the Maoists and killed or driven them away, were ample proof that the tribals were no longer with the left wing extremists, the DSP said in a statement issued on Saturday.

'Hindering social infra'

The mindless violence by the Maoists was hindering the construction of social infrastructure in the tribal habitations. The tribals who were educated and landed government employment were unable to ensure development of their native places due to pressure from the left wing extremists, he said.

In view of the waning support from the residents, the Maoists were planning incidents like demolition of roads under construction, attack on police outposts and other social infrastructure in the Agency areas, Mr. Raghavendra said and cautioned the tribal youth against supporting the Maoists.

He urged the youth not to indulge in activities that could affect their employment prospects.
