A noted industrialist and builder and a senior stage artiste assured support and help to the children of artistes, at a function organised by the Sakala Kalaakarula Samakhya here on Monday.
Managing Director of Vijay Nirman Company S. Vijaya Kumar praised the office-bearers of the Samakhya for taking up programmes for the artistes' children and assured help to the organisation in its future programmes. He distributed school books to the children. Senior artiste and writer Meegada Ramalingaswamy announced that he would provide free training to children in recitation of Telugu poetry. The classes would be held at the Builders' Association Hall in Siripuram from 9 a.m. on every Sunday.
He planned this programme to make the children understand the importance and sweetness of Telugu poem and to help them gain command over the language and speak it properly, Mr. Ramalingaswamy said while urging children that every one of them must learn Telugu poems. Interested have to register their names.
Samakhya's founder-president “Kallu” Chidambaram thanked the donors for providing books to the children.
An advisor to the Samakhya and trade union leader P.S. Naidu wanted the books distribution programme held every year.
A total of 172 children from 150 families of artistes received books and stationery. P.S. Giridhar of Bharata Stationery Syndicate, who provided stationery to the children free of cost, was felicitated.
Magic show by Shariff, dance and music performance by children, comedy skits by Vizag Humour Club, etc. were presented during a cultural programme.
