There was no sign of stage fear on the face of any of the over 40 children who participated in the debate organised by the VUDA Children’s Club at Gurajada Kalakshetram as a run-up to the Children’s Day.
The children from some 20 schools in and around the city registered themselves and spoke eloquently on both why nuclear power and why not nuclear power.
The debate was lively and, in some cases, interesting points came up for discussion. Interestingly, there were more girls than boys in the competition. The students of the 21 teams that participated impressed with their eloquence and clarity of thought.
Contest winners
In the inter-school debating contest, Navy Children School, VT High School, and Sacred Heart Girls High School were given first prize. Vijayam Techno School, Visakha Valley School, and De Paul School teams were selected for second place, where as High Fields International School, Pendurthy, and PSR Public School of Vizianagaram were declared as third prize winners.
Vice-Chairman of VUDA Sasidhar attended the debating competition and appreciated the talents of children. A number of teachers and parents accompanying the students were also present.
