VUDA Children’s Club organises inter-school debating competition
There was no sign of stage fear on the face of any of the over 40 children who participated in the debate organised by the VUDA Children’s Club at Gurajada Kalakshetram as a run-up to the Children’s Day.
The children from some 20 schools in and around the city registered themselves and spoke eloquently on both why nuclear power and why not nuclear power.
The debate was lively and, in some cases, interesting points came up for discussion. Interestingly, there were more girls than boys in the competition. The students of the 21 teams that participated impressed with their eloquence and clarity of thought.
In the inter-school debating contest, Navy Children School, VT High School, and Sacred Heart Girls High School were given first prize. Vijayam Techno School, Visakha Valley School, and De Paul School teams were selected for second place, where as High Fields International School, Pendurthy, and PSR Public School of Vizianagaram were declared as third prize winners.
Vice-Chairman of VUDA Sasidhar attended the debating competition and appreciated the talents of children. A number of teachers and parents accompanying the students were also present.
Drawing contest will be conducted on Sunday morning in three categories — sub-juniors (up to Class-III), juniors (4 to 6 classes) and seniors (7 to 10 classes).
Sub-juniors can draw anything of their choice. ‘Bio Diversity on Planet Earth’ is the topic for juniors and ‘Conservation of Energy Sources’ for seniors. Drawing sheets will be provided by the organisers and remaining material shall be brought by participants. Participants should be at Gurajada Kalakshetram by 9 a.m. and can directly participate in the event. Dance ballets will be conducted from 5 p.m. on Sunday at Gurajada Kalakshetram.
Fort Catholic Girls High School will be performing a ballet named ‘Disaster’ depicting the adverse effects of environment degradation and children of High Fields International School will be presenting a dance ballet ‘Samaikhyandhra’. Students of PSR Public School would be performing a dance ballet on ‘Bio-Diversity’ and children of Vijayama Techno School, Madhurawada, will perform a classical dance ballet ‘Mohini Bhasmasura’ in Yakshagana style.
