Aiming at overall personality development of the people of weaker sections through involvement and inclusive community service, a group of junior college students started taking classes for youth and children.
The students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad Junior College (GVPJC) National Service Scheme (NSS) are conducting a week-long camp at GVMC Peda Jalaripeta Municipal Primary School where they are trying to empower people of the community through awareness and personality development classes. NSS is taking a new direction where the focus should be working at the grassroots level, empowering the less privileged groups of society and help them build confidence. The objective is to involve, share and educate people in various aspects and make them understand the concepts that are being taught, said NSS coordinator of GVPJC D. Dakshinamurthy. Apart from the medical and literacy campaign, the programme comprises six experts giving lectures on personality development, educational programmes, importance of vocational training, legal awareness, health and hygiene, women and child welfare and social service, to name a few. As part of the camp, socio-economic educational survey will be conducted where school dropouts are identified and persuaded to resume their studies. Of late, depression is the key factor creeping the young generation. It is imperative to feel satisfied with what one has rather than longing for something that cannot be accomplished, said one of the founder members of GVPJC P. Raja Ganapathy.
“The programme helps one rediscover oneself and have a better perspective of life. In order to climb up the success ladder, positive attitude is required. And for those who have that quality in abundance, success is in their hands,” he said.
Some 50 intermediate students of GVPJC are volunteering in the camp conducting surveys and taking up service oriented programmes. Principal of the college M.S. Satyavathi, NSS programme officer Ramesh Babu and others also spoke.
