To commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 143rd birth anniversary and the International Day of Non-Violence, children from a number of schools in the city along with teachers and members from other organisations participated in a Peace March on Beach Road on Tuesday.

The march organised by the Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam Central (RCVC) traversed the Beach Road from Park Hotel to Kalimatha Temple. A large contingent of students from Timpany School, Stella Maris School, Visakha Valley and GITAM University, members of associations like Kerala Kala Samiti, staff of Visakha Container Terminal Pvt Ltd participated in it.

The Peace March, organised by the RCVC under the leadership of its chairperson Shobha, was in line with its motto for the year – “Peace through Service”. It was flagged off by Rotary district governor Ch Surya Rao. Prizes were given away by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rajeshwara Rao to the contingents with the best slogans at the conclusion of the march.

Marking the occasion, members of Pyramid Spiritual Society also took out a rally on the Beach Road espousing ‘ahimsa’ and vegetarianism.
