The 15,000-odd students who would be attempting the AP PGMET-2014 re-examination on April 27, for admission into various PG medical course, appear to be a divided lot.

While one set of students favour a re-examination, another group feels that the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences can avoid the re-exam and go ahead with the publishing of a re-merit list.

About 90 students from across the State have filed a case in High Court against re-examination and are confident that the court would consider their request. According to Dr. Rajesh, a PG aspirant from Andhra Medical College, the High Court is likely to pronounce its verdict after hearing on April 22. This has put the other group, which favours re-examination in a fix.

Governor and Chancellor of the university E. S. L. Narasimhan has ordered for re-examination of the AP PGMET after unearthing of irregularities and alleged leak of question paper. About 20 persons, including a couple of top rankers, were arrested on charge of paper leak by the CID, and investigation is on.

Dr. Kranti Kumar of AP Junior Doctors Association favours re-examination, as the CID has arrested only about 10 top rankers, when over 100 rankers had access to the leaked paper. “Re-merit list will not justify our fight against the irregularities that took place. The university will delete only 10 ranks and re-adjust the list, when actually over 100 rankers were involved. The High Court should not annul the re-examination order, as the investigation is under process,” he said.

On the other hand students, who have been demanding re-merit list, feel re-examination will impact the mental condition of the students. “Let the re-merit list be published after full investigation is over. The earlier episode itself has impacted our mental and physical health and moreover, there is no guarantee that the fraud will not take place this time,” said Dr. Rajesh.

While Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju was unavailable for his comment a senior employee of the university said re-examination looks certain, but still there is an element of doubt and it will be cleared only after April 22.
