January 12, 2012 01:41 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 01:26 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Andhra Pradesh Chapter of National Alliance of People's Movement has criticised the GVMC alleging misuse of law against poor slum-dwellers by filing false cases against them and arresting 94 persons including 56 women.

In a statement, Medha Patkar, Prafuula Samantara, P. Chenchaiah, and B.R.K Raju of NAPM have condemned the attempts to shift residents of Indiranagar from a place not publicly owned.

They demanded a halt to the eviction of slum-dwellers, withdrawal of all cases against them as they were only asserting their right to shelter and right to life.

Besides, the Rajiv Awas Yojana and other such schemes should be implemented through participatory process granting them right to in situ development with Right to Property.
