A special team of the CCS (Central Crime Station) arrested nine persons of an 11-member alleged chain-snatcher gang here on Thursday. Two of the 11 are at large.
Except for two, Saligrama Satish (18), a resident of MVP Colony, and Kolusula Shiva (26) of Rangiraji Veedhi, One Town area, the other arrested are juveniles.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), J. Muralidhar, the gang had committed about eight chain-snatchings in recent past at various places including Kancharapalem, Gopalapatnam and Maharanipeta.
The police recovered from them about 182 gms of gold comprising four gold chains, one gold mangalsutra, one two-layer gold chain, one gold black-bead chain and one gold ring. According to CCS Inspector G. Raghu Srinivas, who led the team, most of them are school dropouts and were addicted to vices.
