Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy impressed upon hoteliers in the city of the need to install security devices like remote cameras, CCTVs in the lobby, parking areas and aisles to keep track of the movement of suspicious characters in and around their hotels.
At a coordination meeting on security of hotels and lodges held here on Wednesday in the wake of the recent twin blasts in Hyderabad, Mr. Reddy elaborated to the owners and managers the need to keep a watch on suspicious persons as there was every possibility of criminals checking into the hotels and indulging in crimes in the city.
He also told them about the importance of sensitising the staff on security aspects.
The CC cameras should have a minimum storage capacity of 30 days. The ID proofs of visitors and their web camera pictures should be taken before allotment of rooms.
‘Social responsibility’
The hotels should also submit ‘daily visit reports’ containing details of visitors to the respective police stations.
Mobile numbers and vehicle numbers of visitors should also be taken.
The Police Commissioner assured the hoteliers that the police would not cause inconvenience to them or resort to harassment in the name of checking.
They were also free to contact any superior officer to pass on information.
Secretary of the Visakhapatnam Hoteliers’ Association Ch. Venkateswarlu while acknowledging the social responsibility of the hoteliers in curbing criminal activities, said they would extend full cooperation to the police department in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) P. Viswa Prasad, Additional DCP (Crimes) Mohd. Khan, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) S. Venkata Rao were among those who attended.
At a separate meeting with RTC officials, Mr. Shivadhar Reddy underlined the need to strengthen the security at bus stations like enhancement of security personnel, providing sufficient number of CCTV cameras at strategic places like entrance gate, parking places, parcel service point, ticket counters, and platforms.
He also spoke of the need for proper verification of the antecedents of shop keepers and checking of unclaimed baggage.
In-charge Regional Manager A.V. Chowdary informed that the Dwaraka Bus Station (RTC Complex) was one among the eight bus complexes in the State selected by the RTC MD to beef up security and assured that adequate measures would be ensured at all important bus stations in the city.
Depot Managers of Maddilapalem, Peda Waltair, Dwaraka, Steel Plant, Gajuwaka, and Simhachalam attended the meeting.
