State urged to review clause in PPAs

October 31, 2017 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM

Former Union Energy Secretary E.A.S. Sarma on Monday asked the State Government review ‘deemed generation’ clause in the long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) signed with the project proponents.

Referring to Simhapuri and Meenakshi thermal power plants, the former Union Energy Secretary said they were accused of over invoicing of coal imports. Most of the plants had slashed their production due to surplus availability of power but the government was paying them huge amounts putting heavy burden on the power consumers.

Mr. Sarma cited the bold steps taken by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath to review long-term PPAs and asked Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar in an email to review all such agreements in larger public interest.
