State plans to bring all people under Arogyasri, says Minister

Lays foundation for oncology, surgery super speciality building in KGH

The State government is thinking of bringing everyone in the State under the Arogyasri health insurance programme so that treatment for disease that need treatment for a long period was not a burden, Minister for Health Kondru Murali Mohan said while laying foundation for the Rs. 75 crore oncology and surgery super speciality building on the premises of King George Hospital here on Sunday.

The Government was giving a lot of thrust to the medical and health care and after allotting Rs. 1,400 crore to Arogyasri, would spend Rs. 1,620 crore more on the programme.

The 108 services has been stabilised, 104 service was provided with a doctor for each vehicle and Rs. 40,000 for equipment and special programmes were being run for women and children, he said. The new facility at KGH would help Andhra Medical College to increase the intake for first year MBBS course from the present 200 to 250 seats every year, he said and assured that all needs of KGH would be met. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy wants to establish a medical college in each district and one college each are being established at Nellore and Nizamabad with an investment of Rs. 350 crore and Rs. 200 crore. A nursing college would be established attached to the Government General Hospital and thus AP will have 14 nursing colleges.He thanked Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy for mobilising funds from the PSUs for the super speciality building under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity.

Regarding making the first phase of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences functional, Mr. Murali Mohan said plans were being made to start OP at the hospital. Government planned VIMS to be on par with the NIMS in Hyderabad and though some problems had cropped up, the hospital would be made available for the public soon, he assured.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy pointed out that in spite of not having their presence here, some of the PSUs allocated funds for the super speciality building after he approached them for their help. Minister for Investments and Infrastructure Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the government has allocated Rs. 6,500 crore for medical and health in the annual budget. He wanted the building completed in quick time and also make VIMS functional in a transparent manner.

Government Whip and local MLA Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, who presided, said the State government provided funds for modernisation of KGH. It had spent Rs. 36 crore in the past and sanctioned Rs. 30 crore now out of which Rs. 11 crore had been released. Regarding the super speciality building, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said Rs. 20 crore out of Rs. 75 crore needed was sanctioned by some PSUs and the rest of amount was taken up at board meetings of other PSUs. Collector V. Sheshadri, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana, Superintendent of KGH M. Madhusudhana Babu, Principal of AMC N. Kalpana Subrahmanyam, MLAs M. Srinivasa Rao and P. Ramesh Babu, Director of Medical Education K. Vishnu Prasad, former Superintendents of KGH Shyam Prasad, G. Shanta Rao and Dwarakanath, Superintendent Engineer of APMHIDC K. Venugopal, RMO of KGH G. Bangaraiah participated.

Representatives of some of PSUs that donated CSR funds to the building: Director (Personnel) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Y.R. Reddy; GM of NTPC Balaji Iyengar; ED of BHEL Chandrapa; GM in-charge of HPCL GVR Narasimham and GM of GAIL Satyanarayana were also present.
