With household maintenance services difficult to get or erratic, a start-up, Tapp Me, offers such services with an android or iOS app or through a call centre.

The company picks up qualified technicians, upgrades skill and recruits them to provide electrical, plumbing, home appliances and air-conditioners, said the Gurgram-based start-up’s founder-director Snehanshu Gandhi.

The IIT engineering graduate founded the start-up a year ago with Gaurav Shrishrimal, another IITian, and offers the services in Patna, Jaipur and Visakhapatnam.

The start-up runs on the basis of sharing the business and not on monthly salaries. “Our main aim is to lift the lives of the skilled technicians who are mostly in the unorganised sector by providing them a platform and better pay,” he said.

About 60 technicians were recruited from Old ITI, new ITI and Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology and 80% of the 11,000 customers in the first year were from Visakhapatnam, Mr. Gandhi told reporters here on Tuesday. With focus also on B2B, service to some corporate customers were also carried out.

Security

To address the security concerns, a thorough security check taking three original documents like Aadhaar card and driving licence and with police verification was carried out to ensure the security, he said. The workers were provided identity cards and uniform.
