Though the high command decided to set up a two-member committee to inquire into the circumstances that led to assault on Mr. Murthy at NTR vardhanti function by the supporters of Mr. Patrudu leading to suspension of Peela Srinivasa Rao, former city president, the probe is yet to start.
“Our president is busy with Vastuna Meekosam padayatra. Maybe the committee members will be named soon to decide whether action should be taken against Mr. Srinivasa Rao or the suspension order be revoked,” Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said.
Taken aback at the suspension of Mr. Srinivasa Rao, his close lieutenant, without consulting him, Mr. Patrudu last week dashed off his resignation from the TDP polit bureau and active membership. A source close to him told The Hindu on Wednesday that Mr. Patrudu was firm on quitting the party unless the high command revokes the suspension without any condition.
Along with Mr. Patrudu, senior party leaders Kona Tata Rao and others also resigned. The differences in the party came to such a stage that the known supporters of Mr. Patrudu abstained from the fishermen protest programme organised on Wednesday against diesel price hike by the newly nominated urban district president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar.
