Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) has invited applications for its third edition of ‘Srimathi Silk Mark - Visakhapatnam 2018’ to be held in the city in January.
Announcing this at a media conference here on Saturday, deputy director Central Silk Board, Hyderabad Y. Srinivasa Rao said the preliminary round of the edition will begin next month and the finale is scheduled on January 6.
“With an encouraging response received last two editions, we are expecting more than 600 contestants for the ensuing event. The forum aims at promoting traditional wear and enhancing the livelihood of weavers,” he stated.
The pageant will be followed by an exhibition wherein traditional weaves from various places will be displayed, including handloom products from Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Representatives of SMOI said the pageant was open to married women and the entry is free. SMOI, promoted by Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, is organising similar pageants in various cities such as Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru. “The city level winners of the show will head to national level contest to be held in New Delhi. Attractive prizes will be given to the top three winners along with consolation prizes for sub-title winners,” said Mr. Rao.
