Spurt in chain-snatching incidents cause for worry

October 10, 2013 02:07 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:45 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Chain-snatching, garbage thrown on the road for want of adequate dumper bins, and clogged drains have turned into a matter of serious concern for residents of Sector-6 in MVP Colony.

Spurt in chain-snatching incidents has created fear psychosis with many women reluctant to move freely. The residents, who want to take an active part in night vigil, have appealed to the police to step up patrolling. Choking drains due to massive constructions causes drain water flooding the roads during monsoon period. The sector has several mosquito breeding grounds due to its location on the foothills of Kailasagiri. “We are very keen on making it a model colony. Hence, we appeal to the GVMC to provide more number of dumper bins so that some people won’t dump garbage on the middle of the road, creating an unhygienic environment. This is our colony and we have to maintain it neat and clean,” says a retired government employee. For preventing mosquito menace, the residents want anti-larval operations.

Girder, which was removed from a road meant for light weight vehicles, is also posing hardship to residents of the area.

“We request the GVMC to install it immediately,” says P. Satya Kumar, general secretary of MVP Colony Residents’ Welfare Association (all 12 sectors).
