Shouldering the responsible role cast upon it with the merger of Bheemunipatnam and Anakapalle municipalities and ten villages, the GVMC has prepared special plans for their development, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana has said. Addressing a gathering after unfurling the tricolour at the municipal office, he spoke at length on the ongoing programmes and future plans. Of the 22 projects taken up under JNNURM, 12 have been completed spending Rs.1633 crore. On housing, he said 11,799 of the 15,320 taken up under the mission were completed. A pilot project under the slum improvement programme Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) was sent to the government.
The Rs.350 crore plan for laying a pipeline from Raiwada reservoir to the city was awaiting government approval. The service roads below Asilmetta flyover with landscaping would be readied soon.
Mr. Satyanarayana said tenders were called for setting up 28 e-toilets with an estimated cost of Rs.2.24 lakh at five junctions. The new SWM programme “Viswam” being implemented in Zone IV would be expanded to cover the entire city in two months. Twelve major parks, two from each zone, had been selected for beautification with a cost of Rs. 10 crore.
