Special efforts would be made to enrol the young people who are eligible to be voters but have not enrolled themselves as voters, Joint Collector Pravin Kumar said here on Saturday.
Between 1.5 lakh and 1.7 lakh youngsters, who are 18 years old and eligible to be voters have to be enrolled in the district.
Around 30,000 of them are in the Visakha Agency. Special campaign at the polling booths on the next two Sundays – December 8 and 15 – and operating mobile registration centres at the colleges and universities and villages are some of the steps being taken, Mr. Pravin Kumar informed at a press conference.
Application forms would be made available at the polling booths and the filled in applications along with the required documents would be accepted there itself.
The young voters could get themselves registered online also.
Students and those came to the district for education and employment and are staying here for more than six months could also apply for inclusion in the voters’ list.
Colour ID cards“The new voters would be issues colour voter identity cards (elector’s photo identity cards-EPIC), which appear like ATM cards”, he said. The old EPICs, which are in black and white would be replaced with colour cards in a phased manner.
Applications for registration as voters would be accepted till December 17 and they would be verified till December 31. EPICs would be issued to the applicants whose applications were found to be in order.
Since May, 69,000 applications, including 26,851 from fresh voters, were received in the district and 10,000 were disposed of. As many as 47,000 bogus voters were identified through online verification and they would be removed from the list after conducting inquiry.
