An agency akin to ITDA has been proposed to implement schemes for the welfare of fishermen in the proposed Visakhapatnam-Kakinada Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR). The proposal has been sent to the government for consideration.
Disclosing this at a meeting with representatives of political parties on Thursday, Vice-Chairman of VUDA and PCPIR N. Yuvaraj said the proposal included allocation of funds from the Government of India. The agency will be entrusted with utilizing funds properly, implementation of welfare schemes for fishermen and other related issues as an integral part of the PCPIR Special Development Authority. The meeting was conducted to appraise the political parties on the PCPIR highlighting the aspects of the Draft Master Plan announced.
The Vice-Chairman said since majority of villages, about 55, are fishermen habitations, a separate package was worked out in the master plan. After 120 days of time, much more than the usual 30 days, the draft master plan of PCPIR has received about 1,020 objections and suggestions by December 5.
The PCPIR SDA has completed the task of preparing the Master Plan and after certain approvals by the government, the Pollution Control Board will take up the process of public hearing.
Dr. Yuvaraj requested the political parties to submit their objections or suggestions in writing for placing them before the authorities for examination.
