A solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by C.D. Jain from Kerala, was formally inaugurated by Sambeet Mohanty, Founder of Wishbrush and an art collector, at the Visakha Museum here on Saturday.
Most of the paintings on display at the expo were on children. Though his favourite medium is oil, he has used acrylic, water colour, dry pastels and charcoal for these works. Mr. Jain travelled extensively across the length and breadth of the country and during one of his tours in 1996, the travails of a child labourer had a deep impact on him. He brought out a series of paintings on ‘Child labour', ‘Child abuse' and ‘Destitute children' which portray the dark side of childhood. His first solo exhibition on the children series held in Madurai in 1997 was a runaway success as there were large crowds to see his works. The current expo will be on for a week.
