Three ‘best drivers’ of the Visakhapatnam Region of APS RTC – Yellaiah, M. Appa Rao and P.N. Rao – and their family members were felicitated at the valedictory of the 26th Road Safety Week celebrations at the Visakhapatnam City Depot here on Sunday.

City Police Commissioner Amit Garg, Deputy Transport Commissioner G. Krishnaiah, Andhra University Professor B. Mohan Venkatram, RTC Vizianagaram Zone Executive Director A. Ramakrishna, Regional Manager Y. Jagadeesh Babu and others complimented the drivers for their accident-free record and hoped that their achievement would inspire other drivers.

Addressing the drivers, Mr. Amit Garg said: “Society has placed a great responsibility on you and you should strive to live up to the expectations of the public by trying to attain zero-accident service. Accident-deaths are very difficult to accept for the unfortunate family members and traffic discipline is very important to minimise accidents.” He also appreciated the RTC authorities for recognising not only the drivers but their spouses and family members, who could definitely make an impact on the performance of the drivers. The Police Commissioner also presented awards to children, who participated in the drawing competitions conducted as part of the safety week celebrations.

Presiding over the programme, Mr. Jagadeesh Babu called upon all drivers to strive to achieve zero-accident rate and bring laurels to the region. The activities taken up during the week include: training to drivers to undertake periodical maintenance checks, counselling for family members of drivers, special classes in ‘safe driving’ practices for 140 drivers.

Deputy Chief Traffic Managers A. Veeraiah Choudary (urban) and P. Jeevan Prasad (rural) and Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineers Appala Narayana (rural) and B. Appala Naidu (urban) were among those who participated.
