The present digital marketing scenario has made social media platforms one of the most indispensable tools for marketing products and services, according to Sangeetha Abhishek, co-founder of CGD Creative, a Chennai-based digital marketing firm. Business enterprises can no longer afford to turn a blind eye to the space, she said.

Addressing a workshop on digital marketing organised by Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) here on Saturday, she elaborated on the growth of digital media, various digital channels that business enterprises can tap into and how social media platforms have emerged as a powerful avenue for sales and brand creation. More than 30 entrepreneurs and students attended the workshop.

“A Facebook page for your business helps reach out to people beyond your own set of friends and acquaintances. However, ‘likes’ on Facebook are not the criteria of your reach. It is the number of ‘shares’ of your content that is important. To make your content ‘shareable’ on social media, it is important to create information that is engaging because people consume information more than products on the digital space,” she said.

For instance, a fashion jewellery startup can share an article on 10 latest trends in bridal jewellery or jewellery for business women.

Video content

People spend huge amount of time interacting with engaging content on the social media channels and end up indulging in online shopping.

Ms. Sangeetha spoke about the effectiveness of video content, which is one of the latest trends in digital marketing space, and the significance of creating a good website which has responsiveness on all devices.

A.V. Monish Row, president of VCCI, said that workshop was organised to spread awareness on various digital strategies available to help small and medium enterprises.
