Smart City plan to focus on 5 areas

The third phase of Smart City Master Plan will focus on five areas.

A workshop on Smart City Framework on the third phase here on Thursday discussed the related issues and took the views of officials.

The five areas of focus are: upgrading of BRTS, redevelopment of RTC Complex, electric buses, emergency response system and water management.

Municipal Commissioner and Managing Director of Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited M Hari Narayanan said the first two phases of the Smart City Plan were completed and submitted to the government. He wanted steps for traffic regulation, safe and speedy transportation and pedestrian safety to be made part of the future plans.

USTDA signed an MoU with the Department of Municipal Administration of Andhra Pradesh to prepare the Master Plan. A consortium of AECOM, KPMG and IBM is preparing the Master Plan after selection of Visakhapatnam as one of the three cities for development of smart city master plan with the US collaboration.

Ryan Bouma of AECOM made a presentation on the smart city project. The views gathered at the workshop would be incorporated in the preparation of the Master Plan.

VUDA Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar, GVMC Chief Engineer N Durga Prasad, ADCP (Traffic) Mahendra Patrudu, ACP K Prabhakar, APSRTC Executive Director Ramakrishna, Regional Manager Sudheesh Kumar, Regional Joint Director of Municipal Administration K Ramesh and officials of various departments and consortium representatives participated.
