Smart city: GVMC seeks views of citizens online

People may visit mygov.in and answer a set of 25 questions

As part of its exercise to gather feedback on the Smart City Challenge proposals, the GVMC has sought the views of citizens online.

The questionnaire is in English and Telugu. If people do not get a hard copy, they may go to the GVMC Facebook page to access ‘mygov.in’ portal or directly to the portal, and answer them.

Mobile booths

In all, there are 25 questions on basic amenities and people’s priorities.

Besides, ward-wise meetings will also be conducted to gather people’s opinion. Mobile smart city booths will also be set up for the purpose at places such as malls, Beach Road.

“This is a bottom-up approach to get people’s views on the proposals,” Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar said at a focus group meeting on Saturday.

AECOM and IBM are consultants for preparing the proposals for the GVMC.

In the first year, 20 of 98 competing cities will be selected.

This apart, an essay contest on the topic, ‘What is your vision for Vizag Smart City’, will also be conducted. The top three entries will be given a prize of Rs.10,000, Rs.6,000, and Rs.4,000. There are 25 consolation prizes of Rs.1,000 each. The competition is open to all, and October 20 is the last date for entries.

Interaction

An interaction with media personnel was held as part of the meetings with focus groups on the day.

The thrust was on impetus to public transport, supply of water as per the mandated standards, providing public toilets, foot over bridges and subways, improving health and education facilities, housing, underground drainage, checking quality of hotel food impinging on health, among other things.
