Members of the CPI (Maoist) cadre surrendered in the Agency area of the district.
Six members of the CPI (Maoist) cadre surrendered before the Additional Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar at Paderu in the Agency area of the district on Wednesday.
The surrendered Maoists were members of the Galikonda, Korukonda and Pedabayalu Dalams who were involved in major incidents such as the Balimela, Gunukurai and Pedavalasa. Some of them said they were disillusioned with the Maoist party while others claimed they were leaving it on health grounds.
The surrendered Maoists were Pangi Shakeela alias Chinni (21) of Vakapalli village. She had worked as a Dalam member for the last eight years. She studied up to 6th class and had knowledge for treatment of health problems. She was involved in about 20 incidents such as Balimela, Gunukurai and Pedavalasa and the killing of a Home Guard Busiputtu, Madatakonda Sujata (23), who was involved in around eight incidents, including the Tartallu exchange of fire and Gunukurai encounter, Pangi Anjali (21) of Pinapadu village of Chintapalli mandal. She used to carry a .303 rifle and has been in the Dalam for last eight years.
Mr. Damodar said the three women used to meet and divide between the Dalams. The other three surrendered Maoists were: Gemmili Lokesh (26), who had worked as a guard of Ganesh, and was a Deputy Dalam Commander since 2001. He was also involved in Balimela and other incidents, Korra Radhakrishna alias Ramesh (24), a Militia Commander, who was involved in five incidents.
He went underground between 2005 and 2011, Korra Kameswara Rao alias Balti (25) of Tulam village of Pedabayalu mandal.
Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas sanctioned Rs.5,000 as immediate relief to the surrendered Maoists.
