INS Sindhuvir, one of the sophisticated submarines of Indian Navy, celebrated the silver jubilee of its commissioning.

The submarine was commissioned on this date in 1988 in the erstwhile USSR. Since its induction into the Navy, Sindhuvir reaffirmed her stature as a frontline platform and was awarded the Chief of Naval Staff Unit Citation for outstanding performance in 2011-12. Her operational capabilities have grown from strength to strength with many firsts to her credit.

The submarine is equipped with state-of-the-art fire control systems.

With an electronic warfare suite and an armament of anti-submarine torpedoes, the submarine is a lethal combination of technology and modern weaponry.

The submarine’s crew of 23 officers and 100 sailors celebrated the anniversary by displaying zeal and fervour synonymous with their motto ‘one team, one mission.’ The submarine is presently commanded by Commander Sameer Pote.
