Simhadri plant crosses another milestone

The project's unit 3 of stage II getting ready for commercial operation

Simhadri Super Thermal Power Project of NTPC has reached another milestone with unit 3 of stage II (2 x 500 MW) getting ready for commercial operation. Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde will declare full load commercial operation of unit 3 at a function to be held at NTPC Simhadri at Parawada in the district on September 11.

Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal will participate as guest of honour on the occasion.

The first coastal-based power project, located at Paravada, 40 km away from the city, Simhadri Stage I has an installed capacity of 1000 MW with 2 x 500 MW Units. The first 500 MW Unit of Simhadri Stage I was synchronised in a record time of 39 months from the date of Main Plant Order. This is a new bench-mark for Green Field Projects of this size in India. The biggest intake well in the country installed in the Bay of Bengal to draw Sea Water for use in the CW System as Make Up water, is at NTPC Simhadri.

The Simhadri Project is the most modern Project in India with the state of the art control & instrumentation systems.

The 3rd Unit 500 MW of Stage II achieved full load on March 31, 2011 after successful synchronisation with the Grid on March 29.
