A massive public meeting, ‘Simha Garjana’, at the AU College of Engineering (AUCE) grounds on August 12 and a ‘Millennium march’ from R.K. Beach to the statue of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu on the Beach Road on August 18 will be held to exert pressure on the government to reverse its decision on bifurcation of the State.

Samaikhyandhra Vidyarthi JAC State convener Lagudu Govinda Rao said that door-to-door campaign would be held from Wednesday as part of intensifying the movement. He demanded resignation of Union Ministers D. Purandeswari, Panabaka Lakshmi, K. Chiranjeevi, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao and others from Seemandhra and wanted them to join the movement for an integrated State. The MPs should stall the passage of the bill in Parliament.

Threat against films

He recalled that then Praja Rajyam President Chiranjeevi had expressed his support to the Samaikhyandhra leaders during their protest in 2009 but now was not willing to resign to keep the State united. He said that the forthcoming films of Pavan Kalyan and Ram Charan Tej would not be allowed to be screened in Seemandhra, if Chiranjeevi doesn’t quit his post.

City Congress leaders Behara Bhaskara Rao, Pedada Ramana Kumari and Garikina Gouri were among those who participated in the ‘vanta varpu’ protest organised near the Gandhi statute at Asilametta on Tuesday. Fair Price shop dealers, under the aegis of Fair Price Shop Dealers Welfare Association, staged a protest seeking rollback of the decision on bifurcation. Association leaders P. Chittiraju, M. Prasad, S. Venkata Rao and Cherukuri Venkata Rao were among those who attended.

Relay hunger strike

The Municipal Employees JAC, formed by GVMC Ministerial staff, GVMC Union, GVMC Officers Association and GVMC staff, launched a relay hunger strike at the Gandhi statue on Tuesday even as they continued with the 72-hour pen down strike launched on Monday. A rally was taken out by GVMC employees under the ‘Maha Vaisakhi Nagara Mahila Sankshema Sangam’ from Jagadamba junction to Gandhi statue.

Hundreds of employees participated in support of Samaikyandhra at the EPDCL corporate office on Tuesday. The relay hunger strike by employees continued, according to JAC Chairman VSRK Ganapathi.
